More and more, Ohio consumers are beginning to realize the importance of whole grains in their diets. Efforts are underway in Ohio’s school systems to incorporate whole grains as part of school lunch programs. Educating Ohio consumers about the benefits of incorporating wheat and small grains in their nutrition plans is a priority.
Exports
Ohio’s soft red winter wheat and Ohio’s proximity to export markets provides opportunities for our state’s wheat producers. Expanding export market opportunities is important to the success of Ohio’s wheat and small grains industry.
Industrial Uses
Ohio is on the verge of becoming the leading state in bio-based products. Currently, with manufacturing facilities in place to produce bio-based materials from corn and soybeans, Ohio researchers studying ways to incorporate wheat into bio-based materials.
Agronomic Research, Marketing Education and Risk Management
OSGMP recognizes that producers will encounter more decisions in determining small grains production potential. OSGMP is dedicated to providing research that increases the profitability of small grains production in Ohio resulting from disease, management and yield research.
